I've Gone and Done It.

I just sent in my application to the honors program at my college for next year. Oh man. I feel really relieved that it's done because I've been staring at that darn application for almost two months, trying to decide whether I should try or not. And now I've done it. Whew. But now I'm nervous again. What if I don't get it? Oh gawd. Now I'm stressing again.

reasons not to take online college courses

You don't know your teacher and you don't know any students who have ever had the teacher. You don't know what they like and what they don't. You don't even know what they look like. It's awful. I've had really good luck for the three years I've been in online courses, but I think that this last semester may just prove unlucky. I'm taking a human bio course and the teacher apparently is on the crusade against plagiarism. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for doing your own work and being original. But the teacher wants us to turn in the paper into Turnitin.com. Now if you haven't used this website let me give you a little background. This site will take your paper and compare it to EVERY WRITTEN WORD it can find. It even compares it to other papers submitted by students around the country. It's amazing software and super handy. But sometimes it looks too hard. While it's impossible to copy something word for word on accident, it's pretty easy to accidentally write something extremely similar because everything you're writing about is also being written about by hundreds of other students. Information, especially about science, is usually the same and there isn't too many ways of expressing those ideas. So there's a good chance that what you write is going to similar to someone else's work. I've had this happen many times already, but I've known the teacher personally. They know me, and they know that I don't copy. They give you the benefit of the doubt because they know your character. But that's not the case here. If something like that happens in the class I fail. No discussion. I'm given a zero for the entire course and kicked out. All because a website says so.

it's finals week.

i can't deal with these tests. i have a chem and physics test tomorrow. and our science teacher doesn't tell us what to study. he actually told us yesterday that we will all definitely fail our physics final. i don't think that's how it's supposed to work.

This is not much of a question but more a rant

Okay, so today I got deferred by the college I applied ED to. Today's Question is not going to be about "why oh why why you defer me insert school name" (although I'd like to have that discussion sometime). What I actually want to talk about today is a question that I have no answer to.

You know how when you fill out college apps they ask you to indicate your ethnicity, right? The result is that certain ethnicities are easier to get into schools than others. No offense to the minorities, but I can't help but wonder: does this count as racial discrimination?

This is a question that I have no answer for. A first, I know. But I'd love to hear what YOU thinks!

Cheers :]
Vanessa

P.S. after I got deferred my friends and I went out to dinner at my town's diner and I ate my feelings (giant stack of banana pancakes). Grrrrreat.

stuff that sucks.

When you have a taste for expensive English teas, but you live in the U.S. and it costs more to ship the tea than the actual cost of the item itself #ReasonsIShouldBeBritish

Guys...I think I'm ready for Christmas

Hi, first of all I want to announce to y'all that I'm still ALIVE! Yay! I survived my Thanksgiving alright, with spotty internet connection and an overdose of turkey and stuffing (seriously, I can't get enough of that deliciousness). But um, there's a small glitch in my Book of Survival: Last Sunday I went running, and ended up with a very twisted ankle...yeah.

Lemme tell you what actually happened. So I was running with my friend, and since she brought a phone, I figured I didn't have to (WARNING: ALWAYS BRING YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU RUN). We were about 2 miles into our run when my friend said she was not feeling well. So I told her, "Aww, go home then. Are you sure you'll be alright? Cause I was thinking of running another mile or two."

She said, "Yeah, definitely." Then, dubiously: "You know the way back, right?"

I nodded yes. Well, I did know the way back. The thing is, I didn't expect to limp 3 miles home.

Now, drumroll: I stepped on a pine cone and twisted my ankle!

Yes, get it? Pine cone? I'm so ready for christmas now. But seriously, I'm on crutches and all. Cannot wait for christmas break, when I don't have to hobble from classroom to classroom and can just sit on my rear end all day! Crutches are giving me underarm bruises...not fun not fun.

Now, picture time! This is when I went to get my X-ray at the hospital:
(I look happy, don't I? :")
